About Containered

We turn shipping containers into homes worth living in.

Containered is a small, specialist team of designers and builders based in Melbourne. Every home we make is architecturally designed, energy-efficient, and built to last — delivered and installed anywhere in Australia.

Our story

A different way to build a home.

Traditional residential construction in Australia is slow, expensive, and increasingly mismatched to the way people actually want to live. We started Containered because we saw a smarter path — one that gives owner-builders and small-block buyers an architecturally designed home, built in a controlled workshop, delivered and installed in a fraction of the time.

We build with one-use shipping containers — structures with known histories and no contamination risk. Combined with proper insulation, considered orientation, and high-quality finishes, the result is a home that performs as well as it looks.

We've built homes on rural blocks, regional lots, and suburban infill sites. We've worked with first-home buyers, downsizers, families, and people just looking for something different. Every brief is genuinely different, and we treat it that way.

What we believe

Four principles we won't compromise on.

01

Real homes, not just products

We design every home to be lived in and loved — architecturally considered, comfortable year-round, finished to a standard we'd accept ourselves.

02

Honest about trade-offs

Container homes have real advantages and real limitations. We'll tell you which ones apply to your site and what the right answer is for your situation.

03

Australian made

Built in our Melbourne workshop by local tradespeople, using Australian materials where the quality is right. Less freight, better accountability.

04

Energy efficient as standard

Minimum 6-star NatHERS energy rating on every home. Better insulation, lower running costs, more comfortable to live in.
